DRUM
CIRCLE
Beginning Sunday, April 18, 2004 and every third Sunday thereafter,
ZAMI will host DrumCircle!
What is a Drumming Circle?
A
drumming circle, or a drum circle for short, is a group of women
creating and sharing a rhythmical/ musical / healing / spiritual
experience.
The main instruments used are hand held drums, but other instruments
are also used. As the word circle implies, the women form a circle
to play their instruments. Depending on the situation, women may
stand, sit in a chair on sit on the ground.
Drum circles are held indoors and out, it can happen anywhere!
What kind of drum should I get?
There are many drums from Africa, Middle East, Latin America,
Native America, the Orient, etc.
The most prevalent in drum circles are the West African djembe
and the West African ashiko.
Depending on your tastes, the next most common are the Middle
East doumbek or the Latin American conga.
Then there is a smattering of other drums: from bongos, guiros,
maracas, talking drums, taikos, djunjuns, and so on.
The Native American frame drum (commonly used for journeying)
is also popular.
No matter what kind of drum you have, please bring it!
If you have extra drums and don't mind sharing, please bring
them.
Please come if you are a beginner or have drummed for years...
We need your light and love for this drumming circle.
